March 3 – Mark 8:22-38

The Way of the Cross

Sherry Kellar

What I hear from God in this passage is an invitation to be His disciple by no longer being concerned about myself and my plans, but by embracing my cross and following Him. For the cross and it’s suffering has enabled me to save my life by losing it, denying self, for Jesus’ sake and for the sake of His good news living now with great  passion and purpose. Suffering gets my attention and places it on Jesus instead of myself. Less Sherry, more Jesus and His people.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”    (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

As we share in Christ’s suffering, we come to share Christ’s likeness. Having a mind of God’s concerns and living accordingly speaking truth and sharing the Gospel. For God’s people, suffering is an opportunity to glorify God as we find He is all we need. How great is our God that I would get to take up my cross and follow Him.

We pray:

Faithful Holy God, thank you for inviting us to be your disciples calling us to take up our crosses and follow you. Help us carry them for your glory. Amen.
