Feb 27 – Mark 6:25-56
Gail McAlister
Mark 6 has two amazing stories that are so familiar to us: The feeding of the 5000 and Jesus walking on water. In those stories, Jesus shows that even when we have a little (5 loaves of bread and 2 fish), it can do big things (like feeding 5000). We can share God’s love in small ways that may have a huge impact on others.
The part of scripture that really stuck out to me was when Jesus walked on water, the disciples did not know Him, they were afraid until He calmed the waters and told them to “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”.
I can remember a time when my mom was sick and I drove back and forth from Cleveland every night to see her. I drove the same route each time and knew there was a little church that I passed each night on that route. There came a point when my hope was fading, and I noticed the light on the sign at that little church was turned on one night. The message said, “Faith makes things possible, not easy”. That was my Jesus moment telling me to “Take courage! Don’t be afraid”. What an immediate comfort I felt at that moment!
God’s grace reminds if we TRUST in Him, we will receive His promises. We have to take a true “leap” of faith, step out of our own boat (of comfort) and turn our lives over to Christ. No matter what the storm is in our lives, we can be assured that we will be fed, we will be forgiven, and we will have eternal salvation!
We pray:
Heavenly Father, You are amazing! When we trust in You, You will do amazing things in our lives and give us the courage to help others in Your name. Help us to always trust in You, no matter what. Amen
